I met the cutest, sweetest Scotty dog at the Bainbridge Farmers Market this past season. Her name is Coco...Coco Chanel to be exact. :)
Weeks later Coco's Mom dropped off a bag of fabrics and a book of dog coat patterns and asked if I'd make soemthing custom for Coco...no special requests...I had complete freedom to make something unique- these types of orders are the best...and such a break from my regular sewing!
Here's what I had to work with...
The gold fabric was so cool...kind of steampunk, made me think of the movie Hugo...and the houndstooth...Sherlock Holmes came to mind and probably inspired the direction I went.
While making the collar I brainstormed the closures at neck and belly and thought how cool it would be if I could make the coat be reversible... and so I sewed buttons on both side of collar to coordinate with each sides fabric...and then adjusted pattern cuts to suit Coco's measurements so I could use sewn in velcro.
Lighter buttons on this side on a taupe color wool, from an upcycled sweater...the collar is too cute.
Wishing I had a doggie model right about now...it's not easy to photograph without little legs to hold it up :)
