We had a peaceful weekend with my mother and father n law up at Snow Mass for the Fourth of July. Anna Maria and Les invited us to stay with them at St. Benedict's Monastery just south of Aspen. It was remarkably beautiful, a vast 4,000 acres tucked away in the mountains, Stella and I saw chipmunks, deer, a bald eagle and lots of Aspen trees...
My new favorite- I want one in our yard!
It was a nice get away from the hussel of everyday life, we stayed in a hermitage called "Bridget", there was no phone or television and no wireless access! Friday evening we all drove into Aspen to watch the fireworks at the base of the mountain. Arlin managed to stay awake, he thought the fireworks were pretty cool! His eyes were glued to the sky!
Saturday we drove up to Redstone, the Ruby in the Rockies!
(I think Redstone might just be the place for our next family reunion vacation.)
Sunday we stopped in Aspen and did some shopping- I could have stayed there forever and people watched- wow! the money is unbelievable. We drove home through Independence Pass a road that is only open a few months out of the year. It was an amazing sight. Oh, and I saw the Continental Divide for the first time- pretty neat!
