sewing on paper

creative journal page creative journaling hand made journal Journal Pages Misc. Creations! sewing on paper sewn journal sewn paper

Got crafty over the weekend and experimented with sewing paper on my machine. I really have no clue why I waited this long to try it. It is SO much fun and I'm tail spinning with ideas to craft up. Here's a look at one of the little journals I made (I think I made four of em'?!)

sewn journal

The front and back of the journal are an old music record jacket...I picked up awhile back at an antique mall, I bought a handful for a dollar.

I took a moment to google the word "Calliope":

A calliope is a musical instrument that produces sound by sending a gas, originally steam or more recently compressed air, through large whistles, originally locomotive whistles. A calliope is typically very loud. Even some small calliopes are audible for miles around. There is no provision for varying the tone or loudness. The only expression possible is the timing and duration of the notes.

Uh, who knew? (obviously not me)

the red journal binding is a canvas fabric scrap...

the circus men I cut out are a flap on the inside cover attached by little metal grommets and some ribbon, perfect place to stuff some notes...

Each page is hand crafted in some way. Some are different types of  paper sewn together, some are hand painted, some collaged with images....For me the best part of the whole project was knowing it was handcrafted pretty much totally free! Everything I used was once..."trash." Literally the entire project was made from recycled (up-cycled) paper...For instance I used; the back sides of used greeting cards, used grocery store brown paper bags, torn out old book pages, a ripped record cover....a scrap piece of fabric, and re-purposed x-mas ribbon...

What do you think?!

I think it looks GREAT! Absolutely love the idea of using old LP-covers! And I would love to see the other three you made too. Please? Pretty please? (blink-blink) :-)
