I've been taking the last week to reflect on some things. Life can be heavy...(if you let it, I suppose.) I feel change coming.
Trying to chip away at my 33 things before 34 list. Wow. Accomplishing the list was harder than I thought it would be. One of my goals listed was to read 5 books. I'm almost finished with number 5....
This book is awesome. I've even extended my library check out to actually "do" the exercises in each chapter, keeping a journal writing out of my thoughts. The book primarily focuses on positive psychology and why so many people today seek it. Happiness and positive psychology is a growing demand for people everywhere. How to feel more fulfilled in your everyday life, whether it be work, parenting and in relationships either friendship or romantic.
Some quotes that stuck with me:
"Don't ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Harold Whitman
"Our best chance for happiness is education." - Mark Van Doren
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."- Ralph Waldo Emerson
The other four reads:
Handmade Nation: (awesome! and again I feel lucky to live in Seattle)
Raising a Self Starter (I'm probably a little ahead of myself reading this one considering Arlin's only 3 1/2 years old, but it had some great insight on constructive disciplining and self esteem building)
Status Anxiety: (not fantastic in my opinion)
Print and Pattern: (I actually learned what being a "surface" designer means! surface design= refers to any process that gives structure, pattern, or color to fiber & fabric. These include spinning, felting, papermaking, weaving, knotting, netting, looping, dyeing, painting, stitching, cutting, piecing, printing, quilting, & embellishing)
Have you read any great books lately?
