My friend Jenn, over at PaperandClouds emailed me a couple weeks ago and asked if I'd be her "Gratitude Buddy." I obliged immediately and found it more than coincidental that I had just finished watching the documentary "Happy"
Having a gratitude buddy sounded like just what I needed. A simple idea and yet totally brillant. Here's the link Jenn sent me. All you do is email your buddy three things you're grateful for everyday. Here is an example list:
Today I'm grateful for:
1. having time to finish a painting
2. catching up with an old friend on the phone
3. hearing "I love you Mom" when I tuck my little guy into bed.
It's just that easy. The magic for me, is that I seem to have a running conversation (quite comical at times) in my head with Jenn all day long. I'm often thinking throughout the day whether I'm working out out or in the car about my gratitude list I'm going to email Jenn before I go to bed that night. Without even knowing it I'm thinking positively...which enhances my mood without even trying.
Did you know bad habits take 21 days to break? I didn't until recently. So...by doing this simple gratitude list everyday your ideally training your mind to scan your daily routine for the good. Routinely thinking positively leaves minimal room in your brain for the negative. Isn't that a good thing?
